Having gone through dozens of agents for several apartments over many years, I can tell you that I have now learnt how this industry works. My colleagues have had disaster stories, I have had my fair share too but when I looked for an apartment in primelocation.com I found a place that fit my criteria perfectly that was held by an independent agent- Soames. "They've been around for years" a gentleman colleague of mine announced when I was discussing them.
Marginally more comfortable with their credibility, I went to their office to be shown the apartment. It was a little office tucked away in Chelsea backstreet with reassuringly posh staff. There were no geezers there, no hustlers, none of these "Oooh... lucky this! You've come at just the right time, but there are plenty of offers on this property" kind of crooks. They were lovely. I went to see the apartment and fell in love with it. The perfect place in the perfect location. I had to move in quickly, so I expressed my concern to Soames. I needed to make a couple updates the lease and just like the contract was agreed and signed a couple of days later and presented in a beautiful binder with lots of other useful information. But that's the easy part- the test of an agent is ALWAYS in what happens next. I'll tell you: Window frame fell apart. Called Soames. Problem fixed with nicest handiman ever a few days later. Cupboard door broke. Called Soames. Problem fixed with same handiman a few weeks later (after he custom built a new one) Decided I didn't want some of the things in the apartment. Called Soames. Rolled up carpet and boxed other bits, drove to their little office and that was that. Washer/Dryer circuit board fritzed. Called Soames. New machine arriving next week.
If you're thinking about using Soames, I can't recommend them enough. What sets them apart from the rest is the belief they seem to have that if you treat your client well, keep them happy, they will be your customers for life. I am happy to have an agent for life that I have grown to know, trust and respect, and when the day comes that I'll move out of here, it won't be Primelocations that I check, it will be Soames. If I find something elsewhere, I'll talk to Soames to see if they I can go through them. A good agent is like a good dentist or mechanic- once you found the most honest and talented one, don't ever change.
